Why do we support Hooligans?

100%  Organic African Cotton

COTTON COMFORT

Cotton is soft and comfortable to wear. It absorbs and breathes, transferring moisture at a faster rate than synthetic fibres, so that little busy bees can play all day without perspiration building up and irritating their delicate skin.
Being a natural fibre cotton has great thermal insulation properties – keeping active bodies cool in summer and warm in winter. It is a renewable resource and a hypoallergenic material making it suitable for bambinos prone to allergies and skin irritations.

COTTON CARE

Cotton is strong and durable. Mum’s love it as it is low fuss and dries quickly, making it ideal for baby and children’s clothing. Cotton can withstand high temperatures, shows fewer wrinkles and is less likely to shrink when compared to other fabrics.

COTTON CONSCIENCE

Cotton is a renewable resource and is biodegradable. It replenishes and grows quickly and farming communities benefit from a crop that can sustain them easily without burdening the environment.

Superb quality and child friendly designs

The clothes are made from 100% African cotton (except for polar fleece items) and non toxic inks and dyes are used for the vibrant colours and unique prints.
Hooligans have kept cords short to avoid strangulation and tiny finger getting tangled up. All poppers are nickel and lead free, tested for safety and certified to be safely used in children’s clothing.
Neck and inner leg seams are designed to make the dressing of wriggling bundles and bouncy toddlers easy for Mum. Extra poppers on leg openings are used to keep chubby legs snug and warm.
The dolls have CE approval, meaning that it complies with the Toy Safety Directive of European Union Legislation.
Hooligans are frequently asked about the use of flame retardants in the fabrics that they use but they are unable to find a source that proves these chemicals to be safe for use in children’s clothing items.

100% World Fair Trade Certified

The World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) is a global association that guarantees its members practice fair working and trading conditions.
Their principles are:-
  1. Creating Opportunities for Economically Disadvantaged Producers
  2. Transparency and Accountability
  3. Fair Trading Practices
  4. Payment of a Fair Price
  5. Ensuring no Child Labour and Forced Labor
  6. Commitment to Non Discrimination, Gender Equity and Freedom of Association
  7. Ensuring Good Working Conditions
  8. Assisting businesses with growth capacity
  9. Promoting Fair Trade
  10. Respect for the Environment
Fair Trade is a trading partnership based on dialogue, transparency and respect that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to - and securing the rights of - marginalized producers and workers especially in the south.
Fair Trade organizations have a clear commitment to Fair Trade as the principal core of their mission. They, backed by consumers, are engaged actively in supporting producers, raising awareness and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade. They can be recognized by the WFTO logo.
Fair Trade is more than just trading, it proves that greater justice in world trade is possible. It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first.

Ethical practices and uplifting local communities

Hooligans sources its cotton from local suppliers, using the Wildlife Co-operative in Durban, South Africa to manufacture their clothes and independent groups to supply trims and crocheted items for their hairbands.
By purchasing a Hooligans garment you are supporting:-
  • Workers earning a higher wage than industry counterparts
  • Employees that are empowered and have a say in the final selling price
  • Decent and safe working environments
  • A portion of each sale going to the Wildlife Education Trust to assist their children with education
  • Workers that are 18 years and over
  • Preferential employment given to single head households

Store your precious Memory Quilts in our special personalised cotton quilt bags made from 100% organic cotton. Available from 1 August 2015 and free with all single bed quilt orders.

Preserve your memory quilt for the next generation.

Quilts have long been storytellers of special moments and memories in the life our families and loved ones.  If you plan to preserve them for the next generation then you’ll need to take special care to ensure their survival.

First of all quilts were meant to be used and displayed. However, improper display can greatly shorten their life. Some precautions can reduce the dangers that display may pose for a quilt. Here is some tips to help your memories last forever.

1.  Ensure your quilt is clean before you storing.

Any food scraps or stains need to be removed prior to storage as these tend to attract insects as their own food source. Also remove dirt, smudges and any other source of stains. The safest method for cleaning a quilt is vacuuming, followed by airing, then washing.

2.  Bear in mind what not to do when storing a quilt.

Things that should be avoided during quilt storage include:

  • Direct sunlight
  • Direct or close heat (even from an incandescent bulb; if possible, replace with fluorescent lighting inside the storage area)
  • High temperature or high humidity
  • Acidic surfaces (this includes some wooden surfaces).
3.  Storing your quilt.

Store all Memory Quilts in personalised cotton quilt bags (available from Bubbles and Bibs from 1 August 2015) or a 100% cotton sheet. This will allow the fabric to ventilate and keep it dry.
4.  Put the quilt into a closet, or anywhere that is dark.

If quilts are stored in semi- or full-light, they will fade overtime.

  • It is not a good idea to put quilts in storage anywhere that moisture is likely to occur, such as the basement or the attic. Moisture will cause mildew growth in fabric. And if the quilt is overheated, it will begin to fall apart, while very cold temperatures will cause it to turn brittle.
  • The temperature range for storing a quilt is ideal around 20ÂșC, with humidity around 50 percent.
Here is a link how to fold a quilt.  Its best when fibers isn't folded on top of itself, the fold or crease is much softer. That's why the bias folding works to prevent permanent markings or creases.

Hope you've enjoyed this post as much as I did researching it.

Remember to create happy and everlasting memories for you and your family for now and the generation to come.

Do you love your wet wipes? but would love it with out the added nasties?

Baby Bumkins heard every Mum's cry.

Brought to you by Nuffnang and Baby Bumkins.

Being a Mum of 2 boys (3 and 6) wet wipes is part of our everyday life.  I remember when I was little there was always a container of wet wipes in the car, and they were always dried out and hard and never served their purpose. Years ago wet wipes was a luxury that only the rich and famous could afford.  The average Joe used the good old face washer that was then soaked in Nappy San for days. Thanks to modern technology wet wipes is now more affordable and is available at every corner shop.

This brings me to an amazing new baby brand, Baby Bumkins, which has recently launched baby wipes into the Australian market. The wipes are currently being sold through IGA Supermarkets nationally.

Baby Bumkins prides itself to not just being another brand on the shelf, but to being the brand you choose to ‘wipe that’, wrap that, and care for the most precious little person in your world as they grow and develop.  This is achieved through attributes such as:
  • Gentle, Soft and Safe
  • Developed to support you as mothers, fathers, and families on your journey through parenthood
  • Practical and
  • Always feel secure through the use of dermatologically tested ingredients, with no Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) in any of their products.
We have had the wonderful opportunity to use Baby Bumkins' baby wipes and can surely attest to the attributes listed above.  The wipes were soft and durable. Baby wipes are a priceless commodity in our household.  Besides wiping bums, our wet wipes is a multi-purpose item in our house.  It gets used as a face washer and is great for wiping sore little noses when your little one is sick. Baby Bumkins' baby wipes will surely become part of the grocery shopping going forward.

Do yourself a favor and try out Baby Bumkins' baby wipes.  You won't make a mistake.  If you are interested in finding out more about Baby Bumkins, please visit their Facebook page

To keep or not to keep?

Turn your morning sickness into a picnic....

Did you keep your pregnancy clothes or did it end up in a bag?  Is it trash or treasure?  In my case trash and treasure.....let me tell you why.....

With winter on its way in Canberra, its time for sorting and washing winter clothes, blanket, sheets, cleaning the ducts and vents and all the rest of winter prep.

In the process of sorting out the kids clothes I saw a bag a little worst for wear tucked away in a corner of the closet...my tummy turned and my heart dropped and I realised...it was "that bag".  That bag that would make me vomit just looking at it.  All the memories flashed by faster than "Fast and the furious".  Morning sickness, bloated, you can only sleep on one side, brushing my teeth and vomiting, incontinence, water retention, heartburn, weird smells and waddling like a duck, you get the picture?

With a lot of pep talk and one deep breath I opened the bag..... and I was waiting for that moment, you know that moment (perhaps tears or jumping with joy, neither happened) instead the moment was all good and full of fond memories.  I realised that this chapter was ready for me to write "...and they live happily ever after... The End".  I've got two boys I adore and a husband I'm madly in love with even after 10 years of marriage.  I really want to keep and cherish those memories (good and bad), especially for my boys.

Most of my pregnancy clothes (largely consisting of denims) has seen better days with a handful practically new. This leaves me with two options, either donate all and thank the Lord that those days are over for good, or re-purposing some of the clothes into something usable with tangible memories for our family to treasure?

That gave me the awesome idea of turning all my family's faded, torn, outgrown and of course the pregnancy denims in to a picnic quilt.  We all know how durable and long lasting denim is and that nothing sticks to it.  This will be the perfect solution to the denim pandemic in our house.

Here is what we're going to do... cut all the denims into squares and rectangles and sew them into a design. Then add a strong durable backing to make a very strong family picnic rug that will last a very long time.

We'll keep you up to date with our progress.
